Do It Yourself Outdoor Kitchen

A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.Sometime this is an outdoor kitchen

…but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be fun. People who can appreciate a good barbecue, will never be intimidated by the hours of hard work ahead of them. In order to achieve the desired result and have a beautiful, fully functional outdoor kitchen, it is only needed to respect a few common sense rules and get some tips about key issues.

First of all, Outdoor Kitchen is a project that can easily be completed by a single individual, hence the “do it yourself title”, but that doesn’t mean you should be working alone. In fact it is much better to have a close friend or family members assisting you, as you’ll get the job done faster and won’t feel like doing actual work, but rather having fun. Depending on your skills, the help you get and also the directions you receive, this project could take 60-70 hours, but then again time is on your side.

If you are just a casual griller or if you have a small family, then perhaps a small kitchen will be more then enough and you shouldn’t resort to contractors. For a small one you don’t require a lot of space either, but if you plan on barbecuing frequently and have a lot of guests than the location is very important. In both scenarios it is wise to build is closer to the house so you won’t have to travel a lot with the food; on the flip side, make sure the wind won’t blow all the smoke straight into your home.

A grill is essential, but the other pieces of equipment depend on your vision of the outdoor kitchen, the number of people dinning in it and why not, the possibility of simply cooking outside and lay the table inside the house. You’ll need of course a functional water and drainage system, gas and electrical wiring, but the aesthetic side of the project shouldn’t be neglected. After all, this should be a place where you and your loved ones find peace and spend some quality time together, so having flowers, lights or other decorations wouldn’t hurt.
